The Healthy, Hearty, Delicious $2 Breakfast

“…not making any money means that at some point you can’t afford to buy food. That’s pretty bad. Then you don’t have enough money to buy alcohol. That’s really bad.” – Tucker Max

Worried that your eating habits are:

a.) Unhealthy?

b.) Expensive?

c.) Tasteless?

Not to worry, we’re here to help. Today we are going to describe a delicious breakfast that will solve each of those problems. Our breakfast will allow us to do two things:

a.) Spend less money on food and have more money to enjoy the finer things in life AKA Beer.

b.) Not worry about drinking a few times a week because we just ate a delicious and nutritious meal.

Ingredients

Note: We are including the prices per item on our list, we shopped at Jewel-Osco and took advantage of all of their recently lowered prices. (I am also shopping in a very affluent neighborhood, I’m sure similar prices can be found at Meijer’s, Dominick’s, and Walmart, especially in less bitchy places.)

1 flour tortilla – $0.25

2 eggs – $0.30

1 Slice of 2% Reduced Fat American Cheese – $0.23

3 Slices of Ham – $0.30

1 Tablespoon of Crisco Natural Blend Oil – ~$0.10

Splash of Tabasco – ~$0.05

1 Cup Special K Red Berries – $0.27

1 Cup Skim Milk – $0.17

1 Container Dannon Light and Fit Vanilla Yogurt $0.62

Total Price = $2.29

Holy Crap! That’s ridiculous, I’m opening up a breakfast restaurant tomorrow and marking up the prices 100%, I know I’d pay at least $5 for a meal like this out. A little more than $2 with tax completely surprised me, and I’ve been eating meals like this for years. No wonder why I always have more money than my roommates and friends when we go out….

Preparation

1. Lightly coat a not-stick frying pan with oil. Cook the eggs to your specifications, I enjoy mine over easy so I can have a little yolk to dip my last few bites in. Add the slice of cheese to the egg and toss the ham in the skillet as well. Warm the tortilla in the microwave and add the eggs and ham to the tortilla with a splash of tabasco, roll the tortilla up like a burrito.

2. Prepare the meal with sides of Special K w/ Skim Milk and one container of Light and Fit Dannon Yogurt.

3. Down the hatch.

4. Feel full, healthy, and ready to tackle your day!

Nutritional Information

Grams of Fat: 37

Grams of Carbs: 148

Grams of Protein: 42

Total Calories: 843

For me, that’s less than 1/3 my daily allowance of calories, fat, protein, and carbs. If you are on the smaller side and would like to save some fat from the meal, use one egg and only a splash of oil and you can half the fat content down towards 20 grams.

If you eat breakfast before you workout (Which you should, or at least have a snack), then I suggest eating the bowl of cereal pre-workout and enjoying the protein packed breakfast burrito and yogurt post-workout. Add a glass of milk to the post workout meal and enjoy a whopping 40 Grams of Protein more than enough for even the most avid weight-lifter.
